About the University:
Based on the Northside of Dublin, this institution gained university status in 1989, alongside the University of Limerick. It had originally been created as the National Institute for Higher Education in 1975. In 2016 it incorporated four Catholic colleges, and in 2020 it had around 17,000 students registered. Its alumni include the former Taoiseach John Bruton, who earned a BA in economics and politics in 1968 before qualifying as a barrister.
